Discover history and heritage at Winkies Castle Folk Museum, Marske-by-the-Sea.
Winkies Castle is the smallest museum in the Teesside area and is also an historical “half cruck” building stretching from the 16th century or even earlier. There is a different display each year with many unique hands-on artifacts from hundreds of years of Marske’s history for visitors to explore.

RAF Uxbridge – Battle of Britain Ops. Room
Before the 2nd World War, RAF Fighter Command, responsible for the aerial defence of the UK, divided the country into geographic areas named Fighter Groups. No 11 Group covered London and southeast England and was based at Uxbridge in West London. The Operations Room at RAF Uxbridge exists today as it did on 15 September 1940, the day it was visited by Winston Churchill to witness the conduct of the Battle of Britain.

The Military Heritage Centre
The Military Heritage Centre is housed in one of the many Batteries found in the Rock. In fact this particular Battery, known as Princess Caroline’s Battery, is named after King George II’s third daughter and was built in 1732. These chambers were further developed in 1905 to service the coastal defence 6 inch gun which was mounted on top of the magazine. The actual Battery still houses the original hoists used to arm the gun, as well as the shells and other artifacts used in those days. the armoury displays a selection of weapons used by the British Army in Gibraltar and there are also relics dating from the Great Siege of 1783 to the present day.

Bressingham has been the official home to the Dads Army Appreciation Society’s collection since 2000.
The Television Series ‘Dad’s Army’ ran from 1968 to 1977 with a total of 80 episodes – and you can still catch the repeats to this day, over 30 years after the filming of the very first episode.
